Time Out New York calls it “a jazz outfit that ranges from funky to lyrical.” Brett Chalfin’s “Brooklyn Project” has been around now for a little over 5 years. Brett formed the group with the help of bassist/composer Jeff Koch briefly after the two graduated from Adam Bernstein’s High School Jazz Program at the Berkeley Carroll School in Brooklyn, NY. Although the group has been comprised of a fairly interchangeable collective of musicians, the Brooklyn Project has begun to perform more regularly with frequent band member Danny Fisher-Lochhead on saxophone and with the recent addition of the young, rising vibraphonist, Nikara Warren. In collaboration with Samantha Chalfin’s “Busua Beach Memoirs” photography exhibit, which will be up at the cafe through April, the performance will help raise money and awareness for Teach on the Beach, a non-profit organization committed to changing the world by empowering and inspiring youth in developing countries through education and cultural exchange.
